Lip care

Prevent chapped lips by using an SPF chap stick in summer and winter.
Sun protection ( beware 25% of all sun skin damage occurs in the winter) so moisturise and protect before applying a lipstick.
Allow the moisturiser to sink in before applying a lipstick, as a lipstick wont stay for long if your lips are already greasy.

Lipstick Textures

Cream dense colour and matt finish
(Highly fashionable for winter 2011 are Pink, Red, Wine, Burgundy and Orange)

Semi-Sheer and sheer colour and shimmery finish
( means paler skins can get away with deeper colours e.g. red in a sheer more easily than in a dense cream lipstick)

Glosses and creamy with high shine finish
(add a touch of glamour for any night out or winter sun holiday)

Occassion

Picture
For daytime or work, a deep burgundy lip colour may frighten a few people. For the evening (the light will be more muted) so a very nude shade will disappear unless you use gloss to pick up the light.  Matt and cream shades look better for day. Gloss and glitter add drama for evening.

Choose the right lipstick colour for your skin tone

Dark skins:  can carry off the more bright colours , go for plums, wines and reds.
Pale skins: need more muted tones, so choose light brown beige, pink and coral colours.
Olive skins: having a slight yellowish tinge will suit brownish reds, light browns and raisin coloured lipsticks.

The good news is  there is a new lipstick fashion to suit everyone.

Lip size

The smaller your lips in plumpness the lighter the shade you need to choose. Dark colours tend to make lips look thinner. If you have thinner lips then go for pale colours and also add a gloss to the centre of the upper and lower lip to catch the light and give the illusion of plumpness. Hot tip:
Be bold with lipstick and mute the eyes.
Be bold with eyeshadow and mute your lipstick.
Be bold with both eyeshadow and lipstick and you may frighten someone......including yourself in the mirror!

Lipstick that stays put

To prevent a lip colour bleeding or feathering use a lip definer around the edgeof the lip shape, but be warned, use a coloured lip definer and you could end up with a line around the edge of your lips once you have eaten or drunk something. To be safe go for a clear lip liner, look for "Sally Hansen invisible lip liner"
